Start with the ordinary context
Read any device disclosures and note the layout of the room. Look at accessible surfaces from normal standing or seated positions. If an object seems unusual, describe what you can actually observe: an unfamiliar device on a shelf, for example, rather than a spy camera aimed at the bed. Ordinary electronics, indicator lights, and ventilation openings can be misunderstood. Do not open electrical fittings, climb on furniture, remove covers, or interfere with smoke alarms to satisfy a suspicion.
Keep different observations separate
A photo-analysis flag is a suggestion about an image; a BLE entry is a radio observation. Neither proves that the same physical object is a camera. A phone, wearable, or nearby room’s electronics may contribute to scan results, while a camera using another connection or local storage may not appear. These are limitations of the methods, not a reason to assume every unexplained result is dangerous. Write down concrete observations separately from the app’s interpretation so that another person can assess them.
Choose a proportionate next step
If a specific object remains unexplained, ask property staff or platform support for clarification and, if necessary, request another room or arrangement. On Airbnb, consult its current camera policy rather than assuming every platform has identical rules. If you feel immediately threatened, leave for a safer place and contact appropriate emergency help. Otherwise, stop the routine after documenting the question and deciding whom to contact. You do not need to solve the electronics yourself, confront someone, or keep rescanning until an app displays a reassuring label.
Take it with you
- Describe visible facts before interpreting them.
- Do not dismantle fixtures or disable safety equipment.
- Set a stopping point and escalate specific unresolved concerns.

Room review, without false certainty
No scan certifies that a room is camera-free, private, or secure. BLE names, signal strength, and photo indicators cannot establish spying, exact location, or device identity. Do not dismantle fixtures or disable safety equipment. Some features may require payment.
