Frame the question clearly
Begin with a wider view that shows where the object sits, then take a closer photograph from an accessible position if needed. Keep lighting ordinary and the phone steady so the image is not dominated by glare or blur. For example, photograph the shelf and surrounding wall before photographing the unfamiliar object itself. Do not move, unplug, dismantle, or stage the object for a more dramatic picture. A dark opening or reflected point of light alone does not establish the presence of a lens.
Limit what you share
Before uploading an image, consider whether passports, booking documents, screens, faces, or other personal details are visible. Reframe to avoid unnecessary information, and obtain permission before including another person. Review the app’s current privacy information rather than assuming processing occurs only on the phone or that uploaded material is immediately deleted. If you need an original record for a report, preserve it separately; share only what the recipient needs through an appropriate channel. These are prudent documentation choices, not claims about the app’s storage practices.
Treat the output as a hypothesis
Compare any flagged area with the original scene and describe the actual uncertainty. Write that the app highlighted a shelf object, not that the app found a recording camera. Ordinary items can be flagged, and concealed or out-of-frame devices can be missed. A second angle may clarify an object’s appearance but still cannot establish whether it records. If the question persists, contact property staff or platform support with the images and factual notes. Avoid public accusations or repeated uploads aimed only at obtaining a preferred risk label.
