Write a short factual record
Note the property or booking reference, room location, date, and time. Describe the object and where it was positioned without declaring its purpose. For example: I noticed an unfamiliar device on the shelf opposite the sleeping area and would like it identified. If you used an app, record that a photo was flagged or a BLE entry appeared, including uncertainty. Keep original photographs and relevant messages separately. Do not edit an image to make the object look more suspicious or publish another person’s personal information.
Contact the appropriate channel
For a hotel, contact management or the designated safety team. For a platform booking, use its support and safety reporting process; Airbnb publishes instructions for reporting listings and separate guidance for problems during an active stay. Ask for a concrete next step, such as identification of the object, review by appropriate staff, or a room change. Avoid assuming a particular refund, response time, investigation result, or legal rule. Platform policy and local law are not interchangeable, and this guide is not legal advice.
Do not create additional risk
If you feel immediately endangered, leave for a safer location and seek local emergency assistance. Otherwise, avoid confrontation, breaking open objects, connecting to unknown devices, or trying to seize equipment. Do not disable alarms or other safety systems. Where a possible recording device or other concrete evidence warrants it, ask local authorities how to proceed and preserve relevant material. A scan cannot establish criminal intent, and lack of a scan result does not invalidate a direct observation. Let qualified responders assess the situation while you focus on practical accommodation and personal support.

No scan certifies that a room is camera-free, private, or secure. BLE names, signal strength, and photo indicators cannot establish spying, exact location, or device identity. Do not dismantle fixtures or disable safety equipment. Some features may require payment.
