Understand the discovery boundary
A BLE scanner can observe compatible devices advertising in a way the phone can detect. It is not an inventory of every electronic object in the room. A device may use Wi-Fi, a wired connection, local storage, or no discoverable BLE broadcast. An entry may also originate outside the room. Therefore, an empty list cannot establish that no camera exists, and a populated list cannot establish that someone is recording. This is a practical inference from the scanning method, not a test of any particular device.
Treat signal strength as a changing measurement
A reading of -45 dBm represents a stronger received signal than -80 dBm, but that difference is not a reliable distance ruler. Bluetooth SIG explains that transmit power, antennas, obstacles, and the environment affect reception. Two different devices cannot be ranked by distance using their signal values alone. Even a change from the same entry as you move can have several explanations. Do not translate a stronger reading into an exact location, a camera identification, or evidence of malicious intent.
Use a small, controlled observation
If useful, note a reading while standing still, then compare from another accessible position without opening anything or entering private areas. You may temporarily turn off your own known accessory to see whether an entry changes, but never interfere with other people’s devices or essential equipment. A disappearing entry still does not prove ownership or identity. Record the displayed name and time as reported, mark uncertainty explicitly, and stop if the observations do not answer the practical question. Concrete concerns should go to responsible staff or qualified help, not become accusations based on a device name.

No scan certifies that a room is camera-free, private, or secure. BLE names, signal strength, and photo indicators cannot establish spying, exact location, or device identity. Do not dismantle fixtures or disable safety equipment. Some features may require payment.
